Why attend the Practical ECG Series?
The Practical ECG Series is a unique half-day online teaching session designed for clinicians in A&E and Acute Medicine who already interpret ECGs independently and want to take their skills to the next level.
This highly acclaimed course offers a rare opportunity to learn a fundamentally different approach to ECG interpretation, one designed specifically to meet the needs of Senior ED Clinicians. While the emphasis is on understanding ECGs, this advanced course focuses on practical applications in the ED. The session offers a safe space for independent ECG interpreters in senior roles to learn new insights into ECGs commonly encountered in the ED.
What Sets This
ECG Course
Apart?

What is the Practical ECG Series?
The Practical ECG Series is a unique ECG teaching format designed for busy senior clinicians who already interpret ECGs and want to advance their skills beyond the basics commonly taught in Emergency Medicine.
It consists of half-day online teaching sessions (typically 5 hours) held at regular intervals. Each session covers 12 randomly selected ECGs from all major ECG topics.
The focus is on practical, practice-changing insights that are rarely addressed in traditional ECG teaching. Every session features different ECGs, each offering distinct and clinically relevant learning points.
One of the defining features of the Practical ECG Courses is that it is among the few ECG teaching resources designed exclusively for Senior Decision Makers in A&E. The mission is clear: to make advanced ECG interpretation possible in the ED through the simplification and practical application of complex concepts — and the Practical ECG Series is no exception.
Can clinicians from specialities other than Emergency Medicine & Acute Medicine attend Practical ECG Series?
Absolutely.
While this course is primarily aimed at clinicians working in Emergency Medicine and Acute Medicine, it is also suitable for any clinician who regularly interprets ECGs and is familiar with the common ECG patterns.
In my view, there are really only two levels of ECG interpretation: one expected from cardiologists, and one expected from non-cardiology clinicians. This course is designed to help non-cardiology clinicians develop the confidence and diagnostic accuracy needed for their clinical practice.
That includes doctors from General Medicine, Critical Care, Anaesthetics, Respiratory Medicine, Family Medicine, and General Practice — all of whom may benefit from deeper, concept-based ECG teaching tailored to the realities of non-cardiology practice.
Who will benefit from attending the Practical ECG Series?
This course is designed for clinicians working in Senior Decision Maker (SDM) roles in acute specialties such as Emergency Medicine or Acute Medicine — those who routinely interpret ECGs independently and are familiar with the common ECG patterns encountered in the A&E.
Due to the unique concept-based approach, previous feedback has shown that the course was also very well received by junior doctors (F2s, SHOs, ST1–2), as well as ACPs and PAs with experience in ECG interpretation.
In short, any clinician who regularly interprets ECGs and is familiar with the common ECG patterns seen in ED should benefit from this session.
⚠️ Please note: A working knowledge of basic ECG interpretation will be assumed. ⚠️
Is Session 2 a repeat of Session 1?
Do I need to attend Session 1 first?
No — Session 2 is not a repeat. It features entirely new ECG cases and concepts.
Each session in the Practical ECG Series is designed to be standalone — so you can attend Session 2 even if you missed Session 1.
That said, attending multiple sessions will help you build a deeper and more advanced understanding of ECG interpretation over time.
Is there a 'Bring A Friend' Offer available?
Yes — but it’s only available to those who attended Session 1 (Nov 2024) or the Subtle ACS Workshop (March 2025).
If you're eligible, you’ll have received an email with full details.
More info can be found here.
Will the session be recorded?
No, the live session will not be recorded.
This is to preserve the interactive and psychologically safe environment that is central to the course. The teaching is based on delegate-led ECG interpretation, and recording significantly reduces both participation and openness.
The workshop is also intended to be a safe space for senior clinicians to practise advanced ECG interpretation without the pressure of being recorded. Maintaining this freedom is essential to the quality and authenticity of the learning experience.
What is the tiered pricing system being used for registration?
The Practical ECG Series uses a tiered pricing system to reward early registrants with the greatest discounts.
Registration opens on May 10th, 2025 at 9:00 AM, and a first come, first served system will apply.
The first few registrants will receive a 50% discount (£37.50) on the full fee of £75.
After that, prices will incrementally increase until all discounted slots (approximately 40 total) are filled and the full price of £75 takes effect.
If you're keen to attend, we strongly recommend booking as early as possible to secure the maximum discount.
If you're able to pay the full fee, you're welcome to do so — helping preserve lower-cost places for those who may benefit more.
⚠️ Discounted tickets sold out within minutes during the last session
— we strongly recommend booking as soon as registration opens to avoid missing out! ⚠️
When will the 3rd session of Practical ECG Series be?
This will be informed in due course.

Can you tell us about yourself?
My name is Obaid. I have been an Emergency Physician for over 12 years - initially as a Specialist Emergency Physician in India, then as a EM Registrar in London & now currently in EM training in Leeds.
During my early years in EM, I had a mentor in a Cardiologist who taught me the basic concepts of ECGs. Every week we used to have a dedicated 2 hour ECG teaching moderated by the Cardiology team during which we covered one chapter from Leo Schamroth's 'An Introduction to Electrocardiography' - over a period of 6-7 months we covered the entire book. This was repeated multiple times over the next few years. This rigorous training completely changed the way I interpreted ECGs. It also sparked in me a lifelong passion to learn more about ECGs. As a result, I have spent a significant part of the last decade learning as well as teaching ECG interpretation.
Most ECG teaching resources are focussed on MBBS doctors who wish to learn basic ECG interpretation. However, there are very limited resources aimed at experienced clinicians who are already familiar with basic ECG interpretation, and wish to learn advanced ECG interpretation that is appropriate for their specialty. So my aim is to help develop resources for non-Cardiologists (especially EM & AM physicians), which will help them develop expert level ECG interpretation skills in their relevant specialty.
I believe that advanced ECG interpretation is a mandatory skill for all Emergency Physicians. And that this skillset can only be attained by regular active efforts being made to improve the skillset - what I mean to say is that, advanced ECG interpretation is not something learnt on the job.
I get regularly invited to do ECG teaching at both at different trusts within the NHS as well as for A&E trainees outside of the UK. In 2024, I have also been invited to conduct ECG Workshops on Subtle ACS at RCEM's EMTA Conference (2024) & Oxford's OSEM Conference (2024).
